yes it should be just the same. ubuntu desktop just has added features compared to the server edition which wouldnt be necessary in a server enviroment ie X11, Pidgen, Open Office, and stuff.

if you have any problems get over to the ubuntu forums and im sure you'll get some good support! =)

and to the author, this was exactly what i was looking for, opendns via cli, and the ssl was a bonus. great article!

So I set up the ddclient on my Ubuntu machine. I was wondering what the next step was if I want to write a simple HTML page and access it outside my home network on the internet as: <>.<>.com

I am going to use your article to set up dyndns with my Dell Machine that runs Ubuntu 9.04.
However the question I have is: Do I need the Server Edition of Ubuntu? I have only the Desktop edition. Does that work?

Hi,

I'd just like to say that enabling HostnameLookups in apache2.conf is a really bad idea. It slows down every single request, and is not necessary.

See here for a better way of displaying hostnames instead of the IPs found in the log files:

I think I found the solution, or at least my intuition tells me so.

The problem seems to be in the bios. The Raid array is given a smaller size than in Ubuntu, so I tried changing the setting in the bios of my motherboard (Gigabyte EP35C-S3R)from RAID to AHCI and everything seems to be working fine:
Running

sudo mdadm --detail /dev/md*

Gives me:

/dev/md0:

Thanks a lot for a great tutorial! It is the best I have found about how to install the raid.

I have succeeded in making it work in my computer, except for the times when I halt it. I don't know why, when I reboot it works perfectly good, but when halting the machine my disks are shown by the bios as "offline member" and no OS is found. The only way to start it then is to load up the live cd and making a reboot from there, which corrects the problem until the next halt.

Any ideas on how to fix this?
